FROM THE ROMANS TO DNA: THE HISTORY OF CAMBRIDGE
This two hour tour allows time to see all the sights in the historic heart of Cambridge and for an in-depth visit to one of the famous colleges. Our main recommendations are King’s College Chapel, Queens’ College or Pembroke College. King’s Chapel is the most famous building in Cambridge. Tickets to King’s cost £15 per adult and £12.50 for under 17s. Groups are required to buy their tickets in advance from the King’s website. If you would like to include the Chapel in your tour just let us know and we will guide you through the booking process. During the peak months of May to September inclusive, the maximum group size for Chapel visits is 15. For the rest of the year the maximum group size is 20 (plus the guide of course, who gets in for free!).
Queens’ College has some of Cambridge’s most iconic and beautiful buildings and grounds, The entry fee is £5 per person and can only be paid at the door on the day. Pembroke College is free to enter but group visits are strictly limited and need to be booked, which we can do.
On this tour you will see and learn about the key sights in the historic heart of Cambridge e.g. famous colleges such as Trinity, St. John’s, King’s, Gonville & Caius, Corpus Christi and St Catharine’s; you will also see the world-famous old Cavendish Laboratory where 29 Nobel Prize winners made an extraordinary contribution to the sciences. Other famous sights along the way include: the 11th century St. Bene’t’s Church, the historic Eagle Pub, where airmen gathered in World War II, the University’s Senate House and the University Church of Great St Mary.
This tour can be booked online. If the exact time you require is not shown just book an adjacent time and we can make the required adjustment by email.
From mid April to late June every year Cambridge colleges close to the public for the exam season. The one exception is King’s College Chapel, which remains open to visitors. The exact dates of college closures vary from college to college. We can provide further advice if you email chris@cambridgetourguides.co.uk
